Description

Of family origin, its founders Samuel and Jean-Abel Verilhac had three sons; the eldest son died in the Second World War, the second and third son created the company Verilhac Brothers, Paper-Maker in 1932 in Lyon (France).
Didier Verilhac, a descendant of one of the founders, explains: "The first Rhodia cushion was made in 1934 in Lyon. The Rhône River flows through Lyon. People born in this region are called Rhodanians. The name comes from there. The two trees in the logo represent the two brothers; these trees are spruce (fir). If you look closely, these trees are not identical. They are joined by a line to show that the brothers work together. The brand and logo were designed by Marie-Antonia, the wife of one of the Verilhac brothers."
In 1997 the Clairefontaine company (also a multi-generational family business) acquired Rhodia.
