Faber-Castell is a family-owned company with over 250 years of history. More than eight generations have continued the legacy of Caspar Faber, who began producing pencils in Stein, near Nuremberg, Germany.
It wasn't until the sixth generation that the Faber-Castell surname appeared, when Ottilie, Lothar von Faber's eldest granddaughter, married Count Alexander zu Castell-Rüdenhausen in 1898, giving rise to the new Faber-Castell brand.
