Although best known as the guitarist and vocalist for the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia was much more than a musician. His home at 710 Ashbury Street was the heart of the inspiration and expression that pulsed in San Francisco during the 1960s. It also fueled Jerry's deep exploration of painting and the visual arts.
Like his guitar playing, Jerry's sketches and paintings seem to meander across the canvas, taking unexpected turns before completely transforming. They show us that improvisation isn't just for the stage and that our ideas shouldn't be limited by expectations.
The Blackwing 710 is our tribute to Jerry Garcia and his fusion of visual and musical expression. A piece of his painting "Curves & Lines" is printed on each pencil, which contains our soft (4B) graphite, ideal for both drawing and composing.
